3rd View | The Ride |
Hi. Welcome to 3rd View, where I am
trying to combine certain principles of Taoism, Zen, and Christianity. I also like motorcycling, so there's a section devoted to that. I know, it sounds kinda weird, but I guess I'm kinda weird
too. Anyway, the philosophies of Zen, Chen and Christianity are not completely incompatible. If you are are not a zealot, you might find some of my ideas interesting. I call these ideas 3rd
View, for want of a better name. Sorry about
the website's disarray. You'll probably run into some broken page links,
and other errors. Because the editorials were written at different times of my life, you'll probably notice some contradictory ideas and statements, and the material does not provide a complete picture of my current concept of 3rd View. I'm trying to iron those things out, but haven't quite finished yet.
I don't practice Zen like most other people do. I don't do those breathing exercises, or sit in a lotus position. Heck, I'm lucky if I can bend down to touch my toes these days, so physical contortions are out. Nah! What meditating I do, I do on my motorcycle. Zen is a beautiful philosophy of life as well as a medium for meditation, but I have some disagreements with some Zen concepts. Although I believe we are all of the same encompassing Universe, we are in fact here, and we separate entities. Admittedly, that is dualistic thinking but there is no doing away with it. Also, I do not subscribe to the idea of giving up worldly possessions and living a solitary life to achieve Nirvana. Actually, I don't subscribe to the concepts of Nirvana and Heaven. I wish I could say that I am always peaceful and calm because of my beliefs. But it doesn't always work that way. Rather, 3rd View is a way of thinking about things, of figuring out our place in the Universe. I hate any infringement on our freedoms, but I don't advocate insurrection. I hold no bias against others based on race, ethnicity, gender, religion or sexual preferences. My views are presented in editorial form, and should be considered my opinions only. I expect to alienate at least as many Buddhists and Taoists with my ideas of Zen and Chen, as I do Christians with my views of Christianity. And I'll probably irritate everybody else. But if I caused you to think about my ideas a little, I've done what I set out to do. |
